Autism Assessments
Our autism assessments are fully compliant with NICE guidelines and will determine whether or not you are on the autism spectrum.
Our Autism Assessment Process
Our Assessment process typically involves the following steps:
1. Clinical interview with a parent or carer (ADI-R)
2. Observational Assessment (ADOS-2)
3. Diagnostic Review by a Multi-Disciplinary Team
4. Feedback Session and Written Report

Step 1: Clinical Interview with a parent of carer
The Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (known at the ADI-R) is an interview completed with the parents or carers of the child. The interview obtains a developmental history of the child, as well as information about current presentation. The areas covered are relevant to autism and include: early milestones, language use, play, non-verbal communication, education, friendships, and interests and behaviours. This appointment takes place in clinic and lasts between two to three hours.
Step 2: Observational Assessment
Next, you will attend an in-person session for the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 (ADOS-2), a structured observational assessment. During this hour-long session, the clinician will engage with the individual, asking questions and engaging in activities, some of which may feel playful. These activities are necessary to observe and gather information for the assessment.

Step 3: Diagnostic Review by Multi-Disciplinary Team
After completing the interview and observational assessment, a multi-disciplinary team will meet to review all the gathered information. The team will evaluate your case using the DSM-V criteria to reach a conclusion about whether you are on the autism spectrum.
Step 4: Feedback Session and Report
The lead clinician, typically the one who conducted your clinical interview, will then meet with you to provide feedback on the outcome of the assessment. This feedback session lasts up to an hour, during which the reasons for the diagnosis will be explained, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Any recommendations or next steps will also be discussed, and these will be included in the final assessment report, which you will receive shortly after the feedback session. With your permission, a copy of this report can be sent to your GP.
